Volunteer Information

We want you! Would you like to be part of our wonderful volunteer crew? You can choose from a variety of positions, including tour guide, car detailer, youth educator, exhibit set-up crew, mechanic’s assistant or car show volunteer.

Volunteers are required to attend our free docent training program. This course includes an orientation to the museum plus classroom sessions covering the history of the automobile, Alaska automotive history, the impact of the automobile on our culture, our collections, museum policies and how to lead tours as well as interpret artifacts.

Volunteers will be trained in the following areas of interest:

Docents: our Docents lead tours, visits with guests and shares information and knowledge about the collection. They also assist with or will give school tours.

Pit Crew: the Pit Crew helps with displays, cleaning and polishing cars as well as working in the shop/garage area.

Road Crew: the road crew are trained to drive the cars and will learn to care for and help maintain them.

General Volunteers: we need volunteers that love the museum to help with various tasks around the premises.
